Usage

The Urethral Stent is used for stenting the urethra after hypospadias or epispadias repair and in order to provide postoperative drainage of the bladder. The total period of indwelling stent ranges from 6 months to as long as 96 months.

Adverse Events

The Urethral Stent can cause the following adverse events after use:

  • Leaking of urine
  • Irritation in bladder
  • Pain in bladder
  • Pain in kidneys
  • Pain in groin
  • Pain in urethra
  • Pain in the genitals
  • Blood in the urine
  • Clotting
  • Light pink-tinged urine
  • Pelvic pain
  • Clots in urine

Contraindications

The Urethral Stent is not intended for use in the following circumstances:

  • Urinary bladder outlet obstruction
  • Bladder fistulas
  • Noncompliant bladder
  • Uncorrectable coagulopathy
