Overview

Azalpho (Azacitidine lyophilized) injection is used in the treatment of MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome). It belongs to a group of medications known as antimetabolites and it is used to treat some kinds of blood cancer. This medication works by blocking the activity of an enzyme and stop the growth of cancer cells. It is important to take Azalpho injection as prescribed by your doctor. This medication is given as an infusion into your vein under the supervision of a healthcare provider. The recommended dose of Azalpho injection is decided by a doctor according to your previous medical condition and response to the treatment.

Pharmacodynamics

Azacitidine lyophilized is believed to exert its antineoplastic effects by causing hypomethylation of DNA and direct cytotoxicity on abnormal hematopoietic cells in the bone marrow. The concentration of azacitidine required for maximum inhibition of DNA methylation in vitro does not cause major suppression of DNA synthesis. After the administration, the effect of this medication can be observed immediately.

Usage

Azalpho injection is an anti-cancer medication that interferes with the growth of DNA and RNA of the cancer cells and stops them from multiplying. This medication is used to treat myelodysplastic syndrome (in which bone marrow produces abnormal blood cells). Do not self-administer Azalpho injection. It is advised not to change your dosing schedule without taking suggestions from your doctor.  Avoid drinking alcohol while having treatment with this medication. If you experience any signs and symptoms while receiving Azalpho injection, inform your doctor immediately. Drink plenty of water and keep yourself hydrated. Regular monitoring of liver and kidney function is required during treatment with this medication.
