Teevir (Emtricitabine/Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate/Efavirenz) tablet is a prescription medicine. It is used in the treatment of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection. It boosts up the immunity to fight against the virus and manage AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). Pharmacodynamics
Emtricitabine:- A synthetic nucleoside analog of cytidine, is phosphorylated by cellular enzymes to form Emtricitabine 5′-triphosphate. Emtricitabine inhibits the activity of the HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) by competing with the natural substrate deoxycytidine 5′-triphosphate and by being incorporated into nascent viral DNA which results in chain termination.
Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate:- An acyclic nucleoside phosphonate diester analog of adenosine monophosphate. inhibits the activity of HIV-1 RT by competing with the natural substrate deoxyadenosine 5′-triphosphate and, after incorporation into DNA, by DNA-chain termination.
Efavirenz:- Belongs to the NNRTI (non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors) class of antiretrovirals. Both nucleoside and non-nucleoside RTIs inhibit the same target, the reverse transcriptase enzyme, an essential viral enzyme that transcribes viral RNA into DNA. Unlike nucleoside RTIs, which bind at the enzyme’s active site, NNRTIs act allosterically by binding to a distinct site away from the active site known as the NNRTI pocket. Efavirenz is not effective against HIV-2, as the pocket of the HIV-2 reverse transcriptase has a different structure, which confers intrinsic resistance to the NNRTI class.

Teevir tablet is a combination of three antiretrovirals namely Emtricitabine, Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate, and Efavirenz. This medicine is available in the strength of 200 mg/300 mg/600 mg in the form of tablets for oral administration.
