Overview
Tofajak tablets is a prescription regimen comprising Tofacitinib. It is used in the treatment of patients suffering from severely active rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis. This medication works by reducing the signs and symptoms of arthritis in patients who have shown no response to methotrexate. It helps to decrease the swelling in adult patients (over the age of 18 years). Tofajak is also used to treat patients with ulcerative colitis. Tofajak (Tofacitinib) is available in the form of oral-use tablets in the strength of 5mg.
Pharmacodynamics
Tofacitinib, the active ingredient of Tofajak tablets, is a partial and reversible Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor that works to prevent the body from responding to cytokine signals. By inhibiting JAKs, this compound actively hinders the phosphorylation and activation of STATs. The JAK-STAT signaling pathway is involved in the transcription of cells that are involved in hematopoiesis, and immune cell function. Tofajak tablet works therapeutically by causing inhibition against the JAK-STAT pathway to reduce the inflammatory response in the body. However, there is evidence to suggest that it may also achieve efficacy through other pathways also.
